Now 5 Margaret River horses die - why??

Another horse died last week on the same property according to sources. Limited information on this investigation - results pending on plants and feed. There will be a media release once investigations are completed.

this is very concerning because all horse owners in the area I would assume are wanting to know if there is something they can do to prevent it happening to their horses.

Just curious if it mighhht be the same place :p

Not sure what that has to do with anything Sox12. Latest I have heard is that it is not contagious, possibly toxic and plant related

I really think we need to know what happened - if only to learn from what went wrong. Will rattle some cages again tomorrow.

Well unless the treating vet or the owner of the horses/property let's us know I'm afraid we will never know. There isn't a risk to human life in this case and therefore the results (some testing is still ongoing) the Ag Dept do have, will not be released to the public.

I can totally understand the confidential nature of this and if it wasn't for the media, we might not even know about it.

Would be nice to wrap this terrible episode up with an answer we could all learn from - but perhaps the was no single answer?

Certainly hope all who were involved have happier days ahead

I know the property affected & the owners are considered to be the bees knees of horsemen & women. I don't know if they've found a reason for the death of the horses, but personally, I wouldn't hesitate a single second to send my horses there for training or agistment.

In fact, the only reason my horse isn't there now is I can't quite afford their starting fees. A very sad compromise on price had to be made & she'll be started somewhere else.

I hope they do find out why one day. It's very sad when one horse dies, but four is just terrible. :(

Hmmm - I would like to know for the reason of learning. If it is something that can be sorted and avoided then in my situation I would like to have that knowledge.
Whats done is done, if something rare/unknown/rarely seen etc is happening then I would prefer to be informed.
Not divulging anything at all is not helpful asfaic.

I live around 3/4 hour drive away from Margaret River and so called my local Vet to find out if there was any extra care I needed to take of my horses.

The conversation I had settled my concerns regarding my horses.

Angimac I did not post the details I was told as I felt it was second hand information and not directly from those involved. Therefore not something that I could say "This is what happened" and know I would not be leading someone astray.

The information I was given was sufficient to reassure me that my horses are not at risk.

Anyone who is in the area who is concerned can as I did contact the relevant animal health care professionals and discuss if there is anything to be concerned about.

Not hard to call your local vet who will know if there is something to be concerned about.
