Lunging is not very good for them, and doesnt acheive much either!
Is this your perfessional opinion??

As i have been told differently by several vets, farriers, equine theripest etc...

At the end of the day...these are OUR horses and we do with them wat WE please..Not everyone does the same...

I have no plans on doing much with jack until hes over three..
He gets handled and tied up and groomed a bit.. but he wont even know what a bit or a roller is until he is over three and has matured

hes going out on spell soon for a while with some older horses.. just what a baby needs

My yearlings get shown - or at least they will LOL. One had two shows towards the end of last year and two of them have shows in March so this weekend they will be coming in and starting show prep again. They have spent the last couple of months in about a 10 acre slopy paddock with Diva to keep them in line. While in show prep they will be in a 3 acre paddock with each other and Diva Mine get fairly minimal handling otherwise, but will be given regular halter lessons and be rugged and groomed to try and avoid needing to clip them before their show!

They will also get mouthed in the second half of the year.

If not shown they do stuff all until they are broken in once they are 3 or so

hmmm...
All research I have seen says they all do mature physically at the same rate (give or take a few months)...The growth plates close at the same times in all breeds?

I think it depends on the individual horse. Zophia loves going places, doing and learning new things and is visibly not happy if left alone without a 'job' to do.

Our yearling gets handled everyday as she is in full show prep. As for her exercise and training she gets free run in the arena to blow off excess energy and ground work exercises designed to built muscle and train for led trail, this is only done a few times a week with a break in between. We do not lunge her and she is not stabled as I want her to be able to move around at will.

She has had a saddle on once (weighed less then her canvas rug) and walked around for a few minutes with no fuss. I plan to mouth her towards the end of this year when she is two. Full starting under saddle will be decided from there depending on how she is maturing.

interesting posts, as i said in beginning - dont want this becoming a debate that some shouldnt be doing such n such... but am just curious

clancy is quite the attitudy little bugger - he mucks around for the trimmer ( who is my natural trainer also ) he has a bad habit of trying to walk thru u, and wont hesitate to lift a hind leg in ur direction if he is feelin in the mood! so he is learing to move off pressure and come back, he teaches games with him for example to use a parelli term, you "drive" them towards an object - have several set up in paddock - cones, barrels logs.... and keep their explorational nature - send them to the object and ask them to touch with nose, n reward with treat, rubs - clancy loves this! he's all "where we going?" and the ball of course! he loves pushing that around! in this we teach respect, and interest and he just loves to do stuff with me!
I have my other 2 to ride and am really in no hurry to be riding clancy. but yea, he does get once a week or mayb twice for 10 - 15 mins of "play/education"
I found Chip to be a great teacher! we were ponying clancy at the beach and he was rushing forward then lagging then rush forward again, Chip pinned ears back and nipped him on the neck, he has stayed by our side since!
