never had any horses go through fencen ever going nuts and freaken out hobblen horses is a lazy way to stop a horse from moven. from any thing if u got good fencen u shouldnt have a problem comon sence to me. youngsters will hurt them selfs any way doesnt matter what u do horses are unprodictable no matter what u do. but its dangerious putting hobbels on a horse so young ive seen some brutal stuff and its put me off for life. sorry but i think its wrong

You're kidding-you've never had a horse stuck in a fence or tangled in a rug??? Hobbling isn't a "lazy way of making them stand still" its about teaching them not to fight against pressure. And I wouldn't do anything dangerous to my filly-I've hand raised her since she was 2 days old!! Hobbles are the same as any other horsey gadget-the hands that use them make them safe or severe!!

ive had rugs fall off but never went mentle over them been around there legs. its the way u treat them when they are foals. ive seen hobbles snap a horses legs ive seen hobbles seriously hurt a horse go through a fence with hobbles on the list goes on id ratherspent bit more time and effot to do it a diffrent way other than putting hobbles on. ive only had one horse go through a fence and that wasnt my horse. i not saying other people should not do it but there are some of the reasons why i dont do it. i hate it specialy when a mare is getting surved its wrong.

My dad broke all our ponies in to sadde at around 2...they were handled at birth...and throughout their lives as need be...just rubbing, brushing, feet etc. At around 2 they were taught to lunge, mouthed, saddled, hobbled and ridden We used to take them on a couple of outings, Pony Club etc. and then once they were going kindly and sensibly, they were put back out in a big paddock to mature, mentally and physically, with some mates until 3 - 3 and a half, when they were bought back in and the serious training began We had quite solid ASSP's so they were very developed physically at 2, it does depend on where your horse is at developmentally
