Equine Sports Massage
Since gaining accreditation as an equine sports myotherapist in 1999, Vanessa has provided a range of services for racing, competition & recreational horses. Many years of lecturing in areas such as equine anatomy & locomotion, conformation, biomechanics, farriery & saddlefitting have also provided a wealth of experience & knowledge. Having run several highly successful sports massage courses for TAFE, Vanessa now provides the same opportunity for groups & associations.
•
Horse & Rider Training
Although a competitor & trainer of western horses, Vanessa works with a series of easy-to-understand exercises which are beneficial to horses of any discipline & has clients currently competing in dressage, eventing, showjumping, western, pony club & hacking. Helping owners to work with their own horses at their own pace & in a language which is easily understood is vital & horses (& owners!) of all ages are happily catered for.
•
Equine-Facilitated Therapy
It was while undertaking a Bachelor of Social Science, covering Addiction Studies, Youth Work & Psychology, that Vanessa first became interested in the influence of horses on the human psyche. Upon demonstrating outstanding academic achievement in the area, Vanessa was offered membership to the Golden Key International Honour Society & an opportunity for further study was presented. Vanessa went on to attain 1st class honours for her research & resulting published thesis which explored the influence of horses on the self-confidence & belief systems of adolescent girls. 2008 will see Vanessa commencing work on a PhD exploring the role of horses in psychotherapy.
