Default Turning corners

I had a very nice "turning the corner" moment tonight. The little grey welsh mare who i brought last year for my daughter has apparently had abit of a mistreated life and sometimes you can see her poor little brain trying to comprehend things. She must have had a good frying somewhere in her life, but anyway she has always been a fizzy lunger, she would always fly around you at top speed. Ive been regularly lunging her of late just trying to keep her fitness and muscle tone and it was tonight that i thought.... OMG she has been trotting around for the last three nights just beautifully and soft and balanced. Im hoping that she has realised that she has no fear now and is starting to relax within herself.
let us know of any "turning corners" moments that you may of had.

i've had a few corners with a few horses.
my most recent actually was last summer with my then 2 yr old QH filly who humped & spun (FAST,the little bag!) during a work session,i "saw the dollar on the ground",got up,dusted myself off,& turned to see the filly just standing there, looking confused,as in "why are you on the ground?" she didn't run back to her brother, bucking,as she could have done, she merely was amazed.i hopped back on,she gave a small hump to which i growled, nudged her with my legs, sent her on,& never has there been a problem since. i might be putting a jinx on myself now as a there's always tomorrow!!!
i just think something clicked in her young brain saying "well, that's NOT where she is supposed to be!" much like her older brother a very caring horse with my best interests at heart!!!
i do love a horse who takes care of you.

My girls' horse Latte was getting a bit cheeky. He has been trying to pull the wool and last weekend she was trying to get him to trot beside her on the lead. He tried to push ahead of her on the lead and when she put her hand up to stop him he kicked out and got her a beauty.

So after the hospital visit to get shoulder and knee Xrayed the next morning I started with him.

In the paddock and made him run away from me until I was prepared to say that he could stand still. e loved hooning for the first few mionutes untill he realised that I was not gogin to let him stop when he wanted to and he had a few re thinks about how much he really wanted to be with me instead of away from me lol. Then I got the halter Monty Roberts designed and did some in hand work. Withiin less then half an hour I had him working almost perfectly with no pressure and no stress.
Since then dd has been working him with the special halter. Also no pressure no stress and a totally obediant boy.

Amazing what can be achieved by time, the advice of a great horseman and the tools to help out. That is Latte and Shandeh's turning point together.

well i lunged again tonight and this time i took her out of her comfort zone ( the little dressage that i normally use) and i took her out to the big dressage that has spooky trees next to it and AGAIN she was a perfect angel. Im soooo loving her at the moment and hope this continues and that she is not just having an "off week"

Today O.O

I was brave enough to try to get Latte to trot in-hand again without the Dually halter (his bridle, was going to do some flat work and was waiting for the milk crate to use as a mounting block) and it actually worked really well. He was more than happy to do as he was asked.

And we then worked on walk-trot transitions (which he doesn't like - too much hard work ) and the last transition was perfect - exactly when I asked. Granted, it was going towards the home paddock, but it was completely flawless.

AND!! I think I might have found my sit trot, just maybe, because I got some fab sit trot work in, and some fab rising trot *on the right diagonal*.

AND!! I've always had issues with my feet being too far forwards and turned out (particularly the right foot) but the other day, I looked down at my feet for no real reason, and both were pointed FORWARDS. Might have something to do with finally putting my stirrups at the right length for dressage/hacking??

And a non-horsey one, I finally decided what to do with regards to school - home school while looking for an apprenticeship.

So I've had a week full of breakthroughs. Now if I could just get Latte working happily round... Meh. That'll come with time and me learning how to ask (because I didn't actually feel any knots anywhere when I gave him a massage so I don't think it's that). Sugar rounds off a shorter contact, but I'm not entirely sure about asking Latte because I'm pretty sure Gaia taught him to round differently to that.

OBHH your very little pony turned a corner so quickly oneday on me (over sensative) she over ballanced herself, slipped and rolled on me breaking my ankle as her hoof slammed into it.
I know all about your pony and her corners .

I do know she was used as a games pony for a while too and encouraged to fly around corners.

Haha I'm looking forward to seeing her out and about! She made an awesome games pony for the littlies (wasn't me riding! lol) but reckon she'll make a better lead line, she's gorgeous.
