Cool Nervous Horses

Hello all i am just wondering what methods or feed people have given to nervous horses?

When riding him she likes to shy alot but it is out of fear not being naughty so i don't like to tell him off beacuse this will probably scare him even more, he is a really sook and has a very kind heart he just things boogy mosters are out to get him..

So if anyone has the same problem or had the problem please let me know what feed you gave them or methods you used.

yep , i got new horse a short time ago ,who came out of semi retirement, does the exact same thing . i guess we just have to patient and ride the same route often . i think that its just the unknown that making them nervous rather than being naughty. good for you at not telling your horse off! good luck

If this is a new horse, you really need to give him time to settle in and get used to every, may not be a food issure at all.

But could you please give us some more info on him and yourself, that way we can all get a better understanding on how you two work

A friend also feeds a supp called Placid rein.............has heaps of vit B but really think what Paddys girl said is the way to go. I had a stb that would just use shying to get out of work. If it is a fear thing then ground work and instilling confidence in your horse. It will be interesting to see peoples advice, I used to take my horse up to whatever was causing him to shy but have also heard that ignoring the item and the horse is best.

i agree with leti, pg & jodles... i wasn't enough of a leader for my bold as brass new horse & it's resulted in a nervous nelly! or nag, should i say.

he is MUCH better on the ground & sees me as a leader there, but we are working thru our issues under saddle. lots of leg & tougher riding has helped.
