the other horses are in the paddocks either side of her, not in with her. i can put money on the fact that she'll go thru the fence, she tries to when im just putting his rug on. it would be easy if it was someone elses horse, not my mums best friend.

Without meaning this to come across rudely, why is your friends mares problem now your problem??

This is a situation that obviously concerns you a lot. It is not your fault or your problem, let your friend deal with it. She bought the horse, its HER horse. If she cannot handle this horse then perhaps she should consider other options?

Sorry... but its not my problem if my friends horse decides to run through a fence if I have to move my horse. If they arent responsible enough owners to be there to help control the situation of their own horse at the time you move your horse then perhaps they shouldnt have a horse to begin with.

So well said!!!! Exactly what i was thinking, its her horse, i know you will probably feel bad if the horse hurts itself, but its not up to you!! she will just have to learn the hard way!

what kind of a friend and responsible horse owner would she be to blame you for her horse hurting itself when you have made her fully aware of your intentions and concerns???

shes not a responsible owner. when the horse got sand colic the other week, i got the vet out against her wishes, she wouldve just left her there to possibly die it was only when i threatened to kick her out of my paddock that she agreed to have the vet out the second time that day. i couldnt just leave the horse to suffer, i wouldve paid the bill myself if it came to it.

im currently feeding the horse against her wishes too. yes i know i shouldnt be, and i can get in trouble for it, but i cant just go there every nite to feed red in the same paddock and leave her to starve. And the owner just wont listen when i try to tell her that an OTTTB cant live on watergrass alone!!! there no nutrients in it. so its hard enough for me to walk away, knowing she wont get fed, without having to worry about her going thru the fence. i will get the blame becoz i AM a responsible horse owner, and im also THE horsey person in my family, having always worked at a TB stud im expected to know everything which of course i dont!! so therefore mums best friend seems to think becoz the horse is in my paddock anything that goes wrong can be blamed on me. if the horse did starve, itd probly be blamed on me even tho i told her to feed it.

anyways, like i said, i now it wont be my fault if she runs thru the fence, but i will feel bad. im gonna put her in the cattle yards coz theve got tall wooden fences, load red up and leave and the lady who owns my paddock put her back in the paddock when im gone. hopefully it all goes well

I agree its their horse not yours and no blame at all should be thrown at you just because this person couldn't be bothered to look after their own horse.

Being the queen of stupid questions, can I just ask..... Why on earth did your Mum's friend by this mare in the first place??? From what you has told us so far, she can't handle the horse, isn't horsey and therefore doesn't know what the horse should be fed, when it is sick and when a vet should be called! What does she plan to do with this poor horse.... leave it to rot in the paddock?

It's sad that you have been put in this situation and you are doing all that you possibly can do. You've gone well above and beyond your responsibilities here. Well done to you, and a big bah humbug to the horse's owner!!!
