I agree with getting professional help. Geoff Sandell is great, as is Don Hawkins.

If you *have* to do it yourself then my advice is to be patient. My horse also had major floating issues and would rear and kick out at whips. After a particularly harrowing time trying to get him home from Fairbridge, I tossed all methods aside and started again. I got the float out on day 1 and spent 10 mins re-establishing the meaning of forward on the lead. I was 30 metres from the tailgate! After a month of 10 min daily sessions I had him walking calmly in and out. It was all about patience and rewarding every positive step forward. I didn't care if it took a week or a year to achieve my goal!

Wink Floating problems

I do agree also with seeking that professional help, as there is so many people you can get they all have different ways of doing things. personally i would go for Dan James, I havent specifally had a floating lesson with him but i did have a huge problem with my boy and sounds like what your boy is doing now since i have been to Dan doing ground work the techniques do still help in the process but as you are wanting to work specifically on this problem then i am sure he would give you a lesson specifically on floating. After having about 5 years of not really concentrating on my riding and trying to find another instructor I have finally found Dan and Jacinta these guys are great and now I am organising a few of their clinics for them. If you are interested just give me a call and I can set something up for you.

Perhaps tackle one issue at a time, work on the whips/lunge line issue and stop the rearing/kicking out and then she may have more luck working on the float. Would possibly still take a professional to sort the first one. Also don't forget, just because one professional didn't work, doesn't mean another might not.

My horse is professionaly float trained, and will go on not probs, but if I stand in the wrong spot or revert back to old habits she wont go on. So it may come down to the fact that a horse can be float trained but the owner needs to be trained aswell.

Default help

OK, Geoff must be admirable.

I hope in the meantime, you solved that "problem"?
If not, I may be able to help you.
Just send me an email, and tell me more about your horse... and of course most important where you are located.

Kind Regards!
