Default Some hard facts on China today ?

China has 19% of the world?s population, but consumes
... 53% of the world's cement
... 48% of the world's iron ore
... 47% of the world's coal
... and the majority of just about every major commodity.

In 2010, China produced 11 times more steel than the United States.

New World Record: China made and sold 18 million vehicles in 2010.

There are more pigs in China than in the next 43 pork producing nations combined

China currently has the world?s fastest train and the world?s largest high-speed rail network.

China is currently the number one producer in the world of wind and solar power.

China currently controls more than 90% of the total global supply of rare earth elements

In the past 15 years, China has moved from 14th place to 2nd place in the world in published scientific research articles

China now possesses the fastest supercomputer on the entire globe

At the end of March 2011, China accumulated US$3.04 trillion in foreign currency reserves
- the largest stockpile on the entire globe.

Chinese consume 50,000 cigarettes every second ?
Not an enviable record though ?

Also a lot smarter than us.
While they manufacture 80% of the worlds solar panels,
They install less than 5%. And,
Build a new coal fired power station every week and in 1 year turn on more new coal powered electricity than Australia's total output
Already the largest carbon dioxide emitter, output will rise 70% by 2020.

Glad we're saving the planet.

So you gonna stop buying chinese cars, industrial products and food?

Where there is a demand, there will be a response from the market. They will not produce what the rest of the world aint buying. Yes you can say 'bad china' for all those emissions, all that consumption, but while we are all paying for it, we are all contributing to it as well.

It's a global problem, not a China problem, they are just better placed to make some quick $$$ than the rest of the world

China is a sleeping dragon, we just don't realise it yet!

Yes fantastic facts. And ones that the carbon criers should heed. Go China. While we're all so busy trying to work out a price on carbon the tills are ringing wildly in Asia. It's deafening. They have our exports (more to shut us up than anthing else), they are taking our jobs by taking our businesses and we're fiddling the till for a carbon price. Go China.

Sleeping Dragon alright. But sleeping with one eye open for sure. We're the ones napping. If that Dragon ever really wakes up to how much international power their wield we're in serious poop.

3 cheers for China - they put Chinese interests first. While they have a despicable human-rights record and all those other things - they sure know how to shove their economy up the ladder.

China is WELL aware of how much power it could wield if it so desires or when it so desires to flex its economic muscle.....

Interesting doco....China has run out of Vagina....have a look for it. Their achilles heel.
