Bali?
OH & I need to get away from everything for a while, and his preference is Bali. I've not been there though, and not particularly fussed with the idea. I've been to Phuket and - while a fun novelty - probably wouldn't go back. Hot & humid, teaming with crowds of tourists...
Is Bali any different to Phuket? If you've been, what did you like/dislike about it the most? Did you stray from the tourists beaten path and explore anything outside the usual haunts?
Most importantly though - we'll be taking our toddler, so we're looking for somewhere which is child friendly. My main concern with her is the food and the weather...or am I being paranoid?

Hi Taylorc , I go to Bali every year and have been for the last nine years, except for 1 year when we went to Phukett. Bali isn't as clean as Phukett but we found that the people in Bali were much friendlier. The weather is much the same as Phukett (hot and humid) the humidity really depends on what time of year you go, tends to get more humid heading towards the wet season (Dec - Feb). The hotels are much the same as Phukett but some do cater more for children than others. We also found that Bali is cheaper than Phukett ie food, shopping etc.
So in summary IMO i prefer Bali, its only a 3 1/2 - 4 hour flight (depending on who you fly with) versus a 6 - 7hr flight going to Phukett.
Only 11 weeks to go today and i will be on my way back to Bali again - yiiipppeeeeeeeee

While i have never been to Bali, i have travelled Thailand and been to Malaysia. Phukett is crap and i hear Bali is worse *please nobody shoot me*
Why not check out somewhere else in S.E Asia, theres so many beautiful places and Tiger and Air Asia do some really cheap fares. I reckon its worth the extra couple of hours travel time if the overall holiday is better. JMO

I'd rather go to some of Australias beautiful beach destinations than Bali.

I HATE BALI
as soon as I got off the plane
I wanted to turn around and go home
haha
I did enjoy,
waterbomb park,
white water rafting
and the elephants
I couldnt go out on the streets unless I had dad with me, mum and I tried to go out shopping together, and the comments that were getting thrown around, ahhhhh,
I spent the time down by the pool or in the hotel room, where they couldnt touch or harrass me
haha

you buy, you buy, you buy.
they chant this, all day.
I found I could'nt relax unless I was in the resort,
and why fly over there just to spend your time in a resort?
Others I have spoken to love it or hate it, nobody seems to be in the middle, one or the other
Myself, rather stay home, more peacefull.

Love bali, we go most years. I love the heat and humidity spend the day around the pool drinking cocktails the out in the evening and night for lots of shopping. The people are so friendly. In the last few years I think they the harass you a lot less...its a bit sad it is like a lot of them have given up since the tourism dropped off.
Also there is a horse riding place there beach and rice field treks!
