Default New laws for Swiss pets

Switzerland has new laws for pets

I wonder if anything like this will make its way to Australian shores?

I personally think we're at least 20 years behind them... BUT IT WOULD BE NICE...!

LOL Some of those are a little over the top (like pigs rights to shower) but I do like the idea of compulsory dog training classes.

Thanks for this Nannoo, interesting. I'm afraid when it does extend here we may be unhappy with rulings. There could come a day when riding is outlawed as cruel - after all wouldn't our horses prefer to run free than work on dressage etc? No more cold hosings for starters!

The Swiss may seem a little over the top but what about Spain and their human rights for apes? I like aspects of it but the prisons are going to get awfully crowded if the chimps run amok!

I don't think we need over the top laws, just sensible ones that promote correct, humane animal ownership and much, much harsher penalties to people that abuse or neglect their animals!! MUCH harsher.

Point taken on the Horse rights... I could imagine all these horses taking their owners to court.

But I like the thoughts of having manditory training and regulations on the ethics of how they are cared for.

I wonder how they are enforcing the new legislation???

Before Australia gets 'new' animal welfare laws, the first step would be to actually enforce the existing laws!

Breaches of the Animal Welfare Act carry criminal penalties, yet it is the only criminal law enforced by a charity. We don't see paedophiles being prosecuted by child welfare charities. So why are animals not accorded protection by the government? After all, the governemnt made the laws!?

It seems the Swiss are badly in need of these welfare laws, if the West is correct and they keep lamas in their zoos. I thought only the Chinese did that.

Not zoo - organ farm isn't it?

They were so far ahead of Australia in standards even before these new laws...

I suspect they were referring to the welfare of (Dalai) Lamas. Buddhist monks who are teachers are called Lamas and the Dalai Lama is their leader (I think).

As opposed to camellids (which would include llamas and alpacas).

Well, that's how I read it. Some people take Lama welfare very seriously.
