so its in ONE higher level, not in ANY higher level?

The table says "horses/ponies with less than 30 points in Novice or above"

yep- if you get 10 at prelim, 10 at novice, 10 at elem, 10 at med, 10 at adv...you can still do prelim...
you need to get 30 points at the level above, before you are excluded from the lower level

just saw your addition...

if you get 30 at novice, you are upgraded from prelim and can no longer compete prelim...
if you get 30 at elem, you are upraded from novice and can no longer compete prelim or novice
if you get 30 at medium, you can no longer compete prelim novice or elem...

I like the new system. Seems much more sensible to me.

Allows people to tonk around in a level they are comfortable in if they want (just don't enter tests in a higher grade) but also makes combinations move up when they have shown to be repeatedly ready for the higher level. I like that scores in the higher level in the 60% range only get a couple of points and the 6 pointers go to the 70% horses. It means that those only just making the grade will have to show consistency (ie get 1-2 pts over 15-30 events) at the higher level.

It all makes sense to me.

I like it, means I might one day actually be able to get some grading points (can't see me placing much but can at least work towards getting better scores).

So I assume you get no points for competing in Prelim, it is only when you start getting eligible scores in Novice you start gaining points - right???

yes- you only record 'upgrading points' so, as theres nothing (officially) below prelim, you dont need to record points at prelim.

Thats what its all about anyhow- right?! trying to improve and get better scores

PSO the way the example is set up on the EA site you get upgrading points at ANY higher level, so with your example below you would be graded at Elementary and not allowed to compete below that.

'yep- if you get 10 at prelim, 10 at novice, 10 at elem, 10 at med, 10 at adv...you can still do prelim...
you need to get 30 points at the level above, before you are excluded from the lower level'

i really do love how it is scores based not placings based!!!

Also good as a guide for what a 60% test should look like, 65% etc - provides some baselines or something? And makes it more about aiming for high scores rather than ribbons (what do i do with them all anyway?)
