Question registering an unbranded palomino gelding?

Hi there,
I'm trying to work out if there's a way to register an unbranded palomino gelding of unknown parentage with any societies so that he can be shown in breed classes (other than "any other unregistered horse" classes). Does anyone know if Dilutes Aust or WAPA allow unbranded horses on their gelding register? I've looked at the website but can't work out what the requirements for geldings are.

Cheers!

Apache as far as I know you cannot register an unbranded horse unless the brand is pending. All Breed societies require a brand for identification purposes.
All horses/ponies shown at breed shows need a brand.

If you contact the Registrar of Dilutes Australia i'm positive she'll be able to help you. They do register colour stock with unknown parentage.

Your horse needs to be branded to show in pally classes or at any show (Karl Buckley does branding and does a excellent job).
Dilutes Australia will register a pally gelding with unknown parentage as long as he passes the adult classification. WAPA will only register a pally gelding of unknown parentage as a sports horse.
Hope this helps

thanks all
i guess i'll have to brand the poor guy!
(it will make getting into the royal easier with the biosecurity check, too...since last year they didn't have a microchip scanner).
Does anyone know how long it takes for branding to heal?

Ring Janet Forster (UPWBDA) or PM Tintara on here as she is the lady to speak to, she is the registrar for dilutes. She probably would lend her brand as my pali gelding was unregistered and unbranded and he now carries her brand. As long as he passes conformation he should be able to be registered.

I contacted the Dilute Assoc about registering my unbranded, Cremello colt.

I was told from 2 years and under you can foal record your horse / pony (I think thats the age anyway) and they can be unbranded...anytime after that then they must be branded.

I successfully registered my colt just recently and un-branded but I'll be organising a time very shortly to have him branded anyway.

I am pretty sure it is against the law in WA for any adult horse to be transported without a brand. I know there are horses at shows that are branded, but only because check are random/non existant.

(unless there is a dapple grey society i dont know about LOL ) It sucks! Atm its not really a big deal but hes only young and who knows what i might wanna do with him later down the track... oh well!

Good luck with your boy apache, pallies are gorgeous Pics???

another question: since they need to clip a patch to brand on, how long do you think it will take before the clipped patch blends in with the rest of an unclipped coat (unclipped to avoid losing pally colour - lots of brushing due before the royal!). he's already shedding, if that helps. i dread the thought of turning up at the royal for hacking with a square clipped patch on one shoulder...i've seen people with fluffy natives/minis forced to clip a patch to ID brands for the biosecurity check on the day of the show, and it looks awful - we won't have that much contrast, but i'm worried the hack judges will frown upon it. it's hard enough being a pally in a hack ring!
