Default Washakie destroys Gloucester track record

It's official. As reported in PerthNow, WASHAKIE obliterated the Gloucester Park track record for 2536m when he won the $400,000 Find Thirty Everyday WA Pacing Cup on Friday night. His race time of 1min 56.3sec clipped nearly 1.5sec off the old mark of 1.57.7, set by Tealsby Karita on March 23, 2007.

I reckon that about now John McCarthy would be thinking; "veni, vidi, vici".

cheers

Congratulations!! I know the feeling, I bet the party is still rolling on!

I was fortunate to be the strapper/rider who worked Justaboyden the year he won the fremantle cup and ran second in the pacing cup then the following year when he reversed it, ran second in the fremantle and won the pacing. Was an incredible feeling to be involved and I will never forget watching him come from 3rd last just before the turn to 3 lengths in front when they straightened (9 deep and hit the turn so fast Fred Kersley didnt think he would make it round!). That was over 10 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday.

Once again congrats, you will never forget it! I hope the aching heads clear up soon! lol

I only started paying attention to harness racing because my brother is part owner of Washakie and it soon became obvious that this was a horse to watch. However, I must say that there is something about harness racing that sucks a person in and I am now totally hooked on this great sport. To top it off Gloucester Park is a fantastic venue to sit back and enjoy.

You are right Con I will never forget this race it was something very, very special.

cheers

Race 4 HAROLD PARK at NEWCASTLE 27 February 2010

WATPAC 2010 INTER DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIP HEAT 5

Winner: WASHAKIE

Another great race by Washakie and John McCarthy! Washakie left Smoken Up, Atomic Ark and the Cincinnati Kid in his wake. Washakie will now run in the $1,000,000 2010 Watpac Inter Dominion Pacing Championship final.

cheers

What a small world milzenzab. John McCarthy is an absolute champion reinsman and has more cool than Clint Eastwood.

Here is the latest article on Washakie and John from the Australian Harness Racing website after their run last night:

Washakie Brilliantly Storms Into ID10 Grand Final- Australian Harness Racing
