Default Cough

Hey, this morning after I pulled him up, and again on the walk home one of my horses coughed a few times. A breaker that is behind his stall here has had a cough for a couple of weeks so maybe he caught it off him.

Anyone have any advice???

every chance he wil catch something from another horse, when there being stabled so close to each other, i would first check his temp if he hot if he is around 38.5 then chances are he has cold, depending on the cough is it dry hacky type or sound s like it very deep with a rumble at the end, does he look depressed has he gone of his feed, i would also check his temp every day to see if it goes down thats if he has one

There is a thing called "Stable cough" it is caused through things like, dust, allergens and horses being housed in confined areas together ( stable complexes). Goodie had it when he was at a large stable in SA. They treated him with Potties Cough Mixture.

Do you vicks your horses when training? Keeps the passages nice and open

Like whats been said check temp etc.. Or try him with an Aero Mask and Ventolin or like wise may be might bit asthmatic or have an allergy it's coming to that time of year. Can only try. One other option maybe a bleeder. Just a thought.

My thoroughbred does that when he has been for a strong canter/gallop and then he is fine. Its like he is clearing his chest. its worse when the surrounds are dusty etc.
