Default clipping and showing....dos and donts?

Hey all,

Ive never had to clip before (thank goodness hehe!) though now am at the stage where i think Milo needs to be clipped to
1. Look better for showing and
2. Bring out his coat.

He is in general a late coat dropper anyway (last yr had his winter coat until dec/jan i think) and hasnt started to drop coat at the moment (unlike my other 2). The only thing i was wondering was since i show him "natural" eg loose mane and tail, currently with feathers but trimmed ears, whiskers, beard .. would i then HAVE to plait him if he was clipped?

Note he is an arab pony (arab x welsh) and i show him as an "arab" but is unregistered

Thanks in advance.

There was a question like this posted before and general answer was if you clip feathers etc. you should plait. Either go one way or the other- show him natural or show him plaited/trimmed

I personally dont think hes got any riding pony in him as my other pony is a purebred riding pony and milos noway any similarities to him but looks an awful lot like a purebred arab i used to own.

the only arabs i have seen unplaited are purebreds. As Milo is a partbred i would clip up and turn out like a ridden horse.

You dont have to plait but trim his feathers off, lol.

Im going to show my Arab Pony/Pt Welsh (whom is normally plaited), unplaited, she'll either be clipped, or in natural coat, when i get it out.
Showing in cable as well so i wont be plaiting.

If he is a part bred i personally would clip him and plait him, present him as a ridden horse. Especially if he is part riding pony

Also, as you dont know exactly (without assuming) his breed/s, you can really present him how you'd think he'd look best.
Showing in Unreg, i've seen many not plaited.

I will get the kids pony (Pt Welsh but again unreg) out inhand soon, i wont plait her but she's clipped. Cant plait as she has a "broken crest" & the plaits just look stupid.

awesome lol, yeh if i plaited him itd been taking off his mane and NO way is that happening haha! plus as hes still filling out etc hes got not enough "neck" so to speak to pull off plaits.

Also i did look up breed showing regos (duh me couldnt find it before haha) and if he was a reg arab pony he could be showed clipped with a loose mane and tail (doesnt even have to be a banged tail!) but his is lol

insert piccy see why the mane aint leaving!
