There was a section on the divider that had a mesh insert.....like a stallion divider & although Donna assures me that it is not damaged I thought it was that. THe only other thing it could be is the rug rack. Paris was standing just where the rug finished, so if she did a bit of a buckm she could have caught that section on the corner of the rug rack.........like I said she is a big horse so she would have to go too high to hit the edge of it .........that is the only 2 things I can think of.
I will have a better look tomorrow in the daylight

Wow guys, what a terrible shock!

my guess from the photos is the rug rack is the most likely culprit.... I never would have thought that it would be an issue!

So glad she'll be ok...

FAR OUT!

All the best Jennie and Donna in looking after poor Paris!

You are very lucky that she is a calm enough horse to not have seriously gone off while you were driving!

Woah that's intense. I'm glad she'll be ok, I would have freaked seeing that! Out of intrest what did the vet recommend for wound management later on down the track?

That's shocking; my tummy churned just looking at the photo's so if that had been my horse in the flesh and I saw that I would have freaked (don't turn to me in an emergency ). I really hope she'll be okay physically and mentally; a speedy recovery is wished for.

I am to do nothing other than spray centigen twice a day for the first few days. I am not to give her bute atm for a couple of reasons. Firatly he has given her a cortisoid shot ....mainly for shock but he actually wants inflamation as the increased heat will increase circulation & will start the body laying down new cells. He tells me it will look way worse before it looks better......what you see is the best its going to look for awhile.
it will ooze a yellow frothy discharge & while I can wash it off her legs I am not to touch the wound.
He will check her on Tuesday when he is down & probabvly the following week.
The skin that he has stitched over the top will die, but he has stitched it there to keep the wound moist.

While it does look horrific now & will look worse before it looks better I have had to treat a mare that had a terrible wound high on her rump.

SHe needed a drain & although the wound is not as big is this one, when we found her it was already rotten & fly infested. My local vet said put her down or take her to hospital ( Bunbury) & see if they can do anything.

Well the vet did an amazing job & I used warm salty water to syringe the wound out & then sprayed it with centigen.......twice a day. SHe does not even have a scar today.... so after seeing that I have positive vibes in regards to Paris

Wow. I too would have freaked opening the truck to find such an injury. I hope she heels well and is not tooo traumatised by the incident.

I have a big chestnut mare called Paris too and she is always injuring herself, maybe its the name!
