Simple feeds are the way to go I reckon. Never had success with a busy complicated feed.
Feed same too, with equi vit / min only as I don't feed recommended studmaster and also 1/2 cup canola oil. Only a new horse to me but seems good so far

we have a colt where i am. we just feed him 2 scoops grower and weaner pellets 2 scoops chaff. we put dolomite groom and salt in his am feed. hes not hyped up at all, except when he tries being a stallion, even though hes just 1 year old... google horse calming herbs and try some things . also you might want to look at cutting your protien because some people i know tried that and thier horses calmed down. but thier horses were full grown, so i dont know about that. Hope i helped!

Lesha,
If I may throw up a suggestion which has worked for alot of people in your situation.

Firstly the Studmaster is a good economical basis to your feed so I reckon you could stick with that at a rate of 1 scoop morning and night. I would then remove the lupins, muesli and canola oil and replace with 3/4 of a scoop morning and night of Grotorque. Just make up the rest with hay/chaff.

The Grotorque is a non cereal grain muesli/textured feed made from micronized lupins, beans and sunflower seeds as well as a soyabean meal based pellet. It is coated in Rice Bran Oil and aside from very concentrated micro nutrient levels we also add a fair bit more amino acids (eg Lysine) and so it brings out the coat and assists from a topline and general conditioning point of view.

By mixing this in with the Studmaster you will make it a little more interesting but most importantly you will provide all of the nutrients required in more concentrated levels without needing to add any supps. I can honestly say that it is my favourite feed!

In fact I am so confident that you would be ecstatic with the result that if you aren't happy I will cut up my St Kilda FC membership - well, no I wouldn't do that - but I would go to Subiaco on the 23rd May and sing the Eagles anthem before the game (coz they won't be playing it after!). Now that is CONFIDENCE.

Anyway - just another option.

My yearling colt who is a fatty is on grower and weaner pellets, lucerne, chaff, CellVital and hay. We have to limit what he gets as he is rather a fatty but I have had all my babies on this in different portions depending on their weight and they are all happy and healthy with nice level heads.

I cant really advice on what your feeding your boy, as I dont know his breeding, although I was assuming TB???

I'll tell you what I feed mine....the same receipy but different quantities.

Weaner and grower pellets
Flaked Lupins
Lucerne chaff
Minerals (Dolomite, Sulphur, Garlic, Yeast, Copper sulphate, Epsoms salts, Kelp, Applecider vinegar, cod liver oil)

Plenty of good hay.

Note# As the spring grass shoots are comming throu' I will start feeding good quantities of sweet chaff to really push any sand through....this worked last year really well.

Hope you work out what works for you.
