Default Bran and Museli

Bran and Flaky Bran, is there a difference? Also what do you feed it for?
Also, Horse Museli and Pony Museli, what is the difference? And what do you feed it for?

I work at a stockfeeder and these are the most common questions at the momen, would be great to get an answer myself

Horse muesli is generally higher in energy and protein than pony muesli. Thats about it!

Bran is just slightly more mechanically grounded than flaky bran, hence the difference in flake size. But they are one of the same product.

What are the benefits of flaky bran or normal bran though? Why would you buy one not the other? Just curious...

Just bumping, hopefully someone can tell me why you would feed these products?

Thanks Caroline

I had a debate with another staff member, who wouldnt sell a customer Flaky Bran, because he asked for Bran and apparently horses cant eat flaky bran! I told her it was the same thing, and she wouldnt have a bar of it. Her horses have 'normal' bran, and a vet advised her not to feed flaky bran.

I thought I was right, just checking

I wouldnt. lol personally i dont and will not feed bran as it does not give as much nutrition of fibre as simple hay does and for the fact it can make horses calcium deficient due to its high phosphorus content.

Museli ive not had much experience with except IMO it seems rather rich and sugary...coated in molasses?...well ive never fed it my old agistment owner used to to the fullboarders...she once gave it to my arab mare though over a week without telling me (i was on partboard) to get kisses from her....needless to say i had a nutter for a few days!

i spoke to thompson and redman, yesterday about the same thing, both their pony and horse museli are the same protein percentage( 12-12.8%). the pony museli has lucerne in it , cereal by products and vitamins and minerals added. the horse muesli only has steamed rolled barley, steamed rolled oats, lupins , sunflower seeds, molasses and vitamins and minerals. they recommended that i feed my daughters new horses ,15 yrs old tb, in light work (trail riding, ponyclub ect..) 1-1.5 kilos a day , other daughters horse warmblood the same amount, hope this helps they were very helpful on the phone.
