To clarify, they are soaked in molasses water for 15 to 20 mins prior to feeding and then the chaff is added and mixed. My horses stomachs are fine. I've been feeding lupins in various forms for nearly 15 years and never had any problems.

Whole lupins need to be soaked longer, for up to 14 hours or overnight depending on the variety. I have found white lupins are quicker than brown lupins. Adding hot or boiled water reduces swelling time as well.

Once it has been crushed or flaked, the swelling time is greatly reduced. Leave it too long and it turns to mush.

What wrong with mush ?? lol...and have you found, the weather has alot to do with the swelling time aswell ?
I dont uses T&R because I've had bag after bag of lupins { whole/crushed & rolled } with double-gees in them

I use whole lupins "T" brand

Cheers

I don't like to feed mush beacuse I like the horses to have something to actually chew on. When fed hard feeds, espicially, finer, easy to eat feeds and if there is limited roughage, eating time and the amount of saliva produced is diminished and can cuase the acid levels in the stomach to change and this can sometimes trigger stomach ulcers.

And not picking but there were ppl other than me that have said they feed it dry, so just curious why you commented on what i said.
