Default Greying out?

I know there is no time frame for this to occur, having bred a couple of grey foals etc.....

However, how common is it for foals that will grey out to not have the "grey goggles"?
She's not looking like she'll grey out but was born with black hair around the eyes & everyone said she'll go grey..... well no signs yet.

Without testing ATM, does this filly look like she'll go grey (has a Grey Pinto parent)?

You do not have to have "goggles" but you will find at least one grey hair or eyelash around the eyes at birth if the horse is to grey. I do find those that have the goggles at birth tend to grey faster than those that don't.

That is for sure - Spice is nearly white underneath where he is losing his foal fuzz He had major goggles! the flanks on the filly certainly look suspicious, but that can be decieving with the tobiano gene allowing white flecking blending back into the solid colour - hard call for her - did you find any white hair on her head at all as a bub?

The sire isn't Deepfields Mocha is it?

I can't see the pictures (blocked on my work computer) but I have a solid grey boy from Deepfileds Mocha (who is a grey pinto, was palomino pinto). I don't recall him having grey goggles but it was quite obvious from a young age that he would go grey. He was brown but had quite a few visible grey hairs on his face, and his tail in particular started to grey out fairly quickly - it is now white at 6 years old but his mane stayed quite dark (is now grey).

Well my little bloke is not following the rules here. He started out a brown/bay/black with dorsal stripe, banding on legs, dark stain across withers and shoulders and dark goggles around the eyes. Not a grey hair to be seen anywhere and definatley no white around eyes or in eyelashes.

He is now, at approx 3 months, is starting to shed his baby coat to a very dark chocolate brown with small flecks of grey hair smattered through, just like Mum was when I originally bought her, and if Spice is anything to go by, he should take approx 4 years to go grey completley, going a number of shades of brown/grey, and even then, has dark legs and dapples.

Definatley a coat of many colours.
