Grey TB with brown spots ?
Just wondering what people think, Buster is registered as a TB and was solid grey when we got him, now he is covered in brown spots, My SO has always said he thinks he has appy in him, and the farrier that was down last week said she thinks so aswell, said he toooo chunky 2. Not that we care either way, but do you see many TBs with spots ? Yeah pic would help but my nets down at home shhhhh im at work ;-)
Could explain a few things from his past, why he only did 5 races etc etc

He cannot have appaloosa in him if he is reg TB
Plenty of TB's are "chunky"
Quite a few greys get "spots" as they get older and lose their colour
Flea-bitten gray horses develop speckles in the original coat color. For example gray horses born chestnut develop chestnut "flea-bites". If this speckling starts soon enough the flea-bites can become quite large and numerous, with the horse developing to look a bit like a leopard spot appaloosa.
"Flea-bites" are thought to be controlled by a separate and probably recessive gene, not linked to the gray gene. It is possible that other colors of horse can have the flea-bitten genotype, but the speckles wouldn't show since they are the same color as the coat! quote from horse-genetics.com

Sounds like he's a flea bitten grey.Quite often when they are concentrated quite close together they look like spots.
Love flea bitten greys.

Hi LilD, I remember those photos you sent me when I was looking for your horses brands, hes definitely a flea-bitten grey.
No appaloosa in registered TBs, god forbid - the ASB would have an apoplexy!

My Mare who is 50% Andalusian & 50% Holsteiner is grey with the most unusal white on her. Its on one side of her neck looks like someone has spashed white paint on her. it only came up about 2 to 3 months ago. I've had the vet check and its nothing sinister (thank goodness) just a loss of pigment. She will eventually white out all over but for now i could I get away with an appy rego? ...lol
Normal side...just comeback from a ride...

LOL, Janet when I read your post I thought..."why would you get a vet to look at a change in coat colour?"
then I looked at the picture. OMG, I would have been so worried to see the coat grey out like that, how strange. Has anyone else seen a grey go like that?

I was having the vet out to do teeth ect so i thought i'd get it checked...
A couple of people had tried to scare me by saying that it was a type of skin cancer.
My vet told me "she's special...LOL" and i have actually sent him pictures to check with a dermatologist. I been told not to panic. It is definately not cancer. She just looks so strange, i've never seen grey do it before.
