He's a purebred Tb so he can't be anything other than chestnut. 'Palomino colouring' simply means he is gold with a flaxen mane & tail.

As his leg hair gets paler as you go down he is actually a sorrel, but here in Aus we generally don't split chestnuts and sorrels.

Having spoken to people in America about 'sorrel' there is no real definition anyway. Most just use it as the name for chestnut. But others call light chestnuts, sorrels, some call flaxen chestnuts, sorrels. Some breeds have more of a definition than others.

My point is that they are all chestnut, just that some people call some of them sorrel! Usually american breeds

There is actually a difference between Chestnut and Sorrel.
Chestnut's have dark colouring in their mane & tails and are more a red/red or brown/red colour. A sorrel has flaxen mane & tail or light colouring mane & tail and copper/red or orange/red in body colour. I know this as I have a chestnut tb and a sorrel paint, they both look totally different. I think both the American and Australian Paint website's actually has pics of a chestnut and sorrel, and the paint society here in aus is now defining the difference.
Hope that helps

So what would do you call a horse that has white hairs right through its orange body, is that a roan.

Roan has white hairs intermingled through the base coat but the head remains dark.Flecking or ticking is commonly seen through chestnut coats but the horse is not roan.
Here's a good example of a chestnut roan (at left and to the rear) and a chestnut with ticking through the coat. You can see the difference.
