Thanks for all the info, I'll wean her off it slowly, she is also 22, the vet did say drop her to 5ml then 2.5ml then 2.5ml every other day, just wondering if there were any cases of things happening when they came off it after being on it, I know also that many people keep their mares on it right until a week before foaling.
Ive probably got it on me a few times too as I have had it on the rubber gloves on various occasions and sounds like they dont work, havnt felt any different though

If the vet said this, then I don't know why you'd ask about "weaning" off it.
His instructions are "weaning" the dosage.

Suggest you ask your vet about side-effects ect and maybe write down his recommendations.

Go easy EVP.
Rivvy said in her first post .....

she was on 10ml now 5ml and I think they have to be weaned off it at 55 days will drop it to 2.5ml
Who's to say that she didn't call her vet for clarification after posting the thread ? I know that's when I called mine
Sometimes it helps to think out loud (so to speak).
Although I take my vets word as gospel, it's often enlightening to hear the views of the long time/experienced breeders too.

Rivvy
we didn't reduce daily dosage through the duration (over 100 days),
I think by memory it was 5ml daily, then we just stopped giving it to the mare and all was good, she carried the full term.

Thanks ZAZA , did ring for clarification after the thread started, but wanted to know if anyone had any personal experience of anything happening soon after the mare coming off it. I did get told just too keep an eye on her to make sure no discharge which kinda can make you a tad nervous.

My personal experience with any Regumate is for a course of 120 days (100 at least)...this is the time that the foal does not need these hormones via the mare to sustain the pregnancy.
55 days would seem to be way too early to prevent mid-term abortion??...which in some mares is an issue (previous history, age).

Any questions on treatment programs are best directed at the prescribing vet....
