Thumbs up

Congrats on a good outcome, I think that would be every breeders worst fear.

Cheers

Default Foaling alarms do fail!

[quote=CMSporthorses;554885]VERY lucky everything came together for this foal and the mare Arylin....... fantastic that you were able to get there and help!!!

Another one putting my hand up saying I dont trust foaling alarms! The times we have used them (on the TB stud), only about 40% of the time they actually went off when the mare was foaling....... rest of it was just through checking every 15 - 20 mins........

Having been present (LUCKY ME!) for 500+ foalings (god am I that old), I can say the I dont trust foaling alarms. In my experience, only 50% of mares acquire the lateral recumbancy required for the foaling alarm trigger. About 40% deliver in sternal recumbancy (sitting up) the other 10% deliver standing or full dorsal (imagine dying blowfly!).Some USA breeders use a magnet in vuvla to trigger alarm, others use milk tests/crystal waving/moon phases etc.
Basically, the old saying that "when the apple is ripe it will fall from the tree" prevails. The foal determines when it is ready to be born. The mare only decides exactly when and where. So again, constant monitoring and education can make all the difference.
Wishing everyone the best for foaling season.

Now breakawaystud your post has got me thinking..yes I know not a good idea but

if a mare doesnt lie down to give birth..I would tend to think that she's..{the mare}.. really is NOT happy with her surroundings ???..eg;- shes in flight mode ! cos bi-cripes.. giving birth hurts like hell !!!

cheers

Lee a lot of maidens foal standing up cos they find it easier. I had a mare here to foal down and she was up and down and definately not in a flight mode to get ready to run but was her way of dealing with giving birth. Was quite funny as she looked around after at the foal on the ground as if she had no idea where it had come from - mmmm that was the biggest poop she had ever done

Cheers

For anyone expecting a foal or foals, Breakaway know their stuff! Angela is thoroughly experienced at anything from breeding a foal to delivering the foal. I have seen her work and she is brillaint!

Angela is a true talent when it comes to breeding quality horses. AI or ET no probs as Breakaway is a licensed Artificial Breeding Centre.

Angela reads the mares, works out their needs, knows how they think and is so good with them!

The QH stallions they stand are truely beautiful looking and well conformed, lovely tempered, well performed and truely awesome QH bloodlines.

Spin, Lethal and Hombre are rather sexy boys!!
