My dad broke all our ponies in to sadde at around 2...they were handled at birth...and throughout their lives as need be...just rubbing, brushing, feet etc. At around 2 they were taught to lunge, mouthed, saddled, hobbled and ridden We used to take them on a couple of outings, Pony Club etc. and then once they were going kindly and sensibly, they were put back out in a big paddock to mature, mentally and physically, with some mates until 3 - 3 and a half, when they were bought back in and the serious training began We had quite solid ASSP's so they were very developed physically at 2, it does depend on where your horse is at developmentally
