‘Mascot’ is a Friesian Warmblood gelding born 25 December 2018, he is eligible for AFWH registration. His dam is a very fine and athletic fifth generation registered stockhorse that my family has bred. The sire is purebred Friesian Yasper Van Gelder (deceased), an exceptional natured and willing horse that his owner could put into many varied showing, modelling or other public situations and he would behave like a well-trained gelding.
‘Mascot’ is very athletic with a bright and trainable temperament, he has excellent conformation with good straight legs. He is true black with pretty and unusual white markings.
He is stabled and rugged every night and has very good feeding manners, he stands back and waits for me to step away from his feed tin and say OK before moving to his feed. He has had several trimmings with the farrier and stands well. He is very respectful of fences, we have both conventional wire and electric braid fencing.
I work Mascot regularly with the tractor driving around doing jobs, or I’ve had my husband connect the horse float up and drive it closely around and past where I work him.
He is soft and responsive and has been desensitised to things like ropes flapping against his sides and back legs, flappy plastic bags on sticks and I selected his rug to have Velcro straps for additional noisiness. I work him with lots of distractions happening around him.
I have trained him to be very responsive to body cues, to know when I want him to move off in a particular direction with enthusiasm or to readily back up, or when I want to flap him with a bag and not have him move or react.
He would suit any discipline from dressage to team penning – he has strong stock working genes on his mother’s side and has the lovely elevated movement and rolling canter of his gorgeous father – and he has really benefited from both his parents lovely temperaments. Mascot has a lovely playful nature that makes him want to learn and engage, he would be so easy to train to do any tricks.
We would love him to go to an amazing long term home with someone who will be guaranteed to get a lifetime of enjoyment from him – he is a gorgeous little boy with so much potential ahead. All the foundation training has been laid, he is easy to handle and very easy to love!
