Very happy today :) Just taped Nitro for the first time since he arrived. When he arrived here, he was taped at 480kg. Today, he is 512kg! He has put on 32kg :D So about 10kg a month weight gain.

He is growing again though and looks like he will hit 17hh, so it seems it's contributed to his last growth spurt instead of filling him out! Hollow legs!

Right now he is on oaten hay, oats, coolmax, lucerne chaff and haycubes.

Oh and happy birthday Nitro, you are now 4 and officially a stallion!

Thanks :) We still have a good ways to go; that photo was shortly before he started growing again, and he looks a bit rakish again. And he is still only growing UP, not filling out widthwise much yet. Saddlebreds of this family are slow maturers so he won't be finished until 6 or 7 years of age.

Right now my plan is to continue this rate of weight gain (~10kg a month) until September and then see how he is shaping up.

    He is currently getting daily:

    10kg oaten hay
    5kg whole oats
    2kg coolmax
    1kg lucerne chaff
    1kg haycubes

plus handfuls of grass that the agistees' kids put in his feed bucket, which he loves.

Barney shares some of his feed. Sometimes I cut out the hay for a feed if he is playing with it too much and not eating it!.
