ok I've had a Virus going around my lot down here since after the Royal, its lingered with the young ones for a few weeks but the older horses have got over it with-in a couple of one has gone off their feed.

Its a runny nose, swollen glands & the horse is a little off colour so to speek.
I've had the Vet treat one Yearling with Antis but the Virus came back again, and one horse had a blood test, which just show'd white cell count up a little. ';'

I know of 2 other youngsters with it at the moment

Has anyone else had this Virus ?? and did the Vet give you its name ?

A virus will usually cause a lower WBC count, not a higher one. Are you sure it isn't a bacteria they aren't passing around. What anti-biotics did you use? Maybe the horse wasn't on them for long enough, or the right anti-biotic wasn't used?

Im just up the road from you I have had a horse that got this problem every year its from the dust caused by the easterly.

Run lots and lots of test (vet loves me to pieces) came back dust on lungs not life threating.

Put some vasoline around the inside of nostrils daily

Few years back mine got Fat Leg Virus around this time of year. Vet said it was carried on the easterlies as well.

But I think the Royal is before the easterlies start to come through.

Leanne @) remember many (many) years ago when I took little Sara to the Royal for the Pony Club events. She picked up a virus with swollen glands while she was there. Maybe its still lingering in the breeding horses stables *#)*#)

yep Kate..its one of those ones.. some of my lot have had swollen legs, the nassal discharge can go greenish/yellowish or just thicker clear - others have had a cough aswell, but like I said above, the older horses have got over it a lot quicker then the younger ones...

Going round in circles- I know of a gelding up Armadale way, a mare in Bullsbrook, with the same thing & a Colt who was in Henley Brook they all started before the Eastily winds started. ';'

I know lots of "nausties" are carried on the winds eg;- Rotavirus that foals can get :(

My boy has got it, whatever it is.....seems to be on the tail end now. He had/has swollen legs, horrible cough, nasal discharge. I put him on ab's because the discharge from his nose was getting pretty funky...gross!

In saying that he has still been his usual self - gave him 3 days off whilst the ab's kicked in over Christmas, now back in full work and was much better today - only coughed once.
