These to words Piebald, Skewbald. arnt really used anymore...

Pinto is the main word used these days..This is a Coat Pattern. And can be any type/breed of horse.

Paint is actually a Breed of horse.

Piebald is black and white, Skewbald any other colour and white, ie chestnus, bay, brown, grey, etc. These are the old timer terms.

To be a Paint it has to be quarter horse bred.

Pinto is any coloured horse not of heavy horse breeding, and yes a Paint can be registered as both a Paint and a Pinto.

The differant coat patterns are Tobiano, Overo and Sabino, and combinations of each can co-exist.
