Carrying on from the Warren Show thread and also from discussions this weekend at a hack show I am wondering why clubs don't look at holding "how to show" clinics ';' Open to both members and non-members.

Lots of beginner shows are well supported but no instruction is given at them. And week in week out you see horses who have simple presentation issues that could be easily fixed, handlers who don't know how to show a horse properly, cicles in hack workouts that look nothing like a circle etc etc.

Have any Clubs considered running a clinic in the morning with a mini-show in the afternoon to show off what they have learnt? Or a two day clinic with day 1 being how to prep your horse and day 2 being a show? There are dressage, jumping and eventing clinics but you ncer see one for showing ;)

I have a TB like that Jlnew.. its painful but an easy to climb over mountain if you are willing to put in 15 mins a day running the clippers over their legs for a few weeks.. :) Or some good drugs would do the same job lol *#)

and david instructed on where norty ones should go and how everyone can avoid them etc..

hmmm reminds me of a horse i own LOL

(we also hold our own closed hack shows for our members to relax and have a go!!!)

**** on here has run some clinics for this kind of thing - they are great too! Maybe she'd include plaiting and presentation if there was a demand. Her clinics are really well organised and great for green horses and owners:)*

Well I do have years of practice in getting out of it. If you need someone to run that bit I could probably make myself available.

There is an ex-stockyard member (ex-advertiser) who holds young horse clinics which includes inhand showing.

There are also studs (eg: Arabian studs) who hold a clinic or two a year on how to show that particular breed and turn them out which also allow other breeds to attend also. These usually happen when eastern states handlers visit and clinics are held.

Well, yes our ARC has run a few clinics for our members on the ins and out of ridden showing. A few on presentation and a couple on how to ride a good workout and the etiquette of the show ring.

the young riders squads have held plaiting/makeup clinics before also (which I have attended). a big major one is an excellent idea and get specialists in or people high up in the ranks of breeding/showing to do talks or demonstrations. its certainly a good idea and one worth looking into. i know the welsh pony and cob society hold presentation seminars on how to produce welsh ponies.
