Hi, I have a 16.2 tb mare, she's a fairly easy keeper and only gets a small feed of oaten chaff, lucerne, lupins, salt and a vitamin mix. I was looking to add something like canola oil or sunflower seeds to help make her coat nice and shiny. I have to pre make feeds up so I'm worried about the oil going rancid, so would I be better with the sunflower seeds?

I would suggest feeding for health, rather than coat. If your diet is balanced and the horse is getting what it needs, the coat will be lovely naturally. Where do you feed they are lacking? Weight? Minerals?
Are you happy with the feed she is on? What changes would you like to see in her coat? Do you have a photo?

You could pre-make the feeds and add a small container with the oil in it to be tipped and mixed prior feeding?
