I'm looking at purchasing a 15year old 16.2hh TB Gelding who has been in a stable for the last few years with no grazing, so has been fed hard feed twice a day plus hay. The paddock he will be adjisted has plenty of grazing so I'm wondering how to transition his diet. He won't be worked very hard, just used for trail/pleasure rides, but as a TB I don't want him to drop weight.

    Any advice is appreciated.

I would keep him on the same feed to start with then reduce the amounts over a two week period, adding a probiotic like protectin will also help the hind gut flora adjust to the new feed environment
