My question... is it possible for a bay horse to have both rabicano AND sabino colourings or is it one or the other? Just as a friends pony looks like its got both!

Yes....it is possible......but Sabino is also commonly associated with flecking too, so that is what you might be seeing. Rabicano and Sabino have a close association.

There are several forms of Sabino, however they are only able to test for Sabino1 at present.

Sabino1 is nobably absent from pure TB, SB, Arab, QH etc - so their version of 'sabino' is caused by a different gene or combination of genes. As research advances Im sure they will bring out testing for Sabino2, Sabino3 etc etc.

There is no test for Rabicano at present.

I'm fairly sure it's also in Arabs, but I may be wrong.

Oops  Youre right, I went back and checked my book again, I was skim reading - yes SB1 is found in QH.

SB1 is definitely not present in Arabs though. What they have must be another form of Sabino :)
